Reflect–Express–Transform: Investigating Speech-Based Iterative Digital Design for Young Designers

چکیده

Abstract We investigate speech-based input as a means to enable reflective thinking for younger individuals (middle- and high-school students) during design iterations. Verbalization offers unique way externalize ideas in early could therefore lead new pathways exploration iteration, especially K-12 students who possess the creative potential but are not technically trained process. Interactive systems, however, by-and-large utilize sketching, multitouch, gestural inputs. As result, (1) there is little know-how regarding how operationalize verbal inputs meaningful facilitate idea (2) fundamental understanding of underlying cognitive mechanisms iteration through communication. take initial steps toward these gaps by first designing implementing ShapOrator interface that takes descriptions geometric parameters (shape, size, instances) semi-natural language form determines appropriate transformations given artifact modeled shape assembly. By using our experimental setup, we conducted an in-depth observational study on ten middle- tasked with spaceships. Our revealed participants were able create variety designs while associating functional topical contexts their spaceships throughout

Digital Styling for Designers: in Prospective Automotive Design

Although a great part of the new-product development process in automotive industry is already digitalized to some degree, the level of digitalization of the styling process is not so high particularly in view of concurrent engineering. This paper is (1) to investigate the state-of-the-art of computer-aided styling (CAS), (2) to propose desirable CAS guidelines reflecting the characteristics of...

investigating the feasibility of a proposed model for geometric design of deployable arch structures

deployable scissor type structures are composed of the so-called scissor-like elements (sles), which are connected to each other at an intermediate point through a pivotal connection and allow them to be folded into a compact bundle for storage or transport. several sles are connected to each other in order to form units with regular polygonal plan views. the sides and radii of the polygons are...

Medium-Based Design: Supporting Bricoleur Designers

The design of learning environments is a fundamental part of education research today. In this article, we put forth a design method, medium-based design (MBD), to create useful learning environments that foster inquiry, support artifact construction, and enable interaction with targeted learning content through a medium.

Iterative Design of L_p Digital Filters

—The design of digital filters is a fundamental process in the context of digital signal processing. The purpose of this paper is to study the use of lp norms (for 2 < p < ∞) as design criteria for digital filters, and to introduce a set of algorithms for the design of Finite (FIR) and Infinite (IIR) Impulse Response digital filters based on the Iterative Reweighted Least Squares (IRLS) algorit...

How Expert Designers Design

In both business training and higher professional education there is a clear shift towards competencybased learning to cope with fast technological and societal changes. Competencies can be construed as abilities that enable learners to recognize and define new problems in their domain of study and future work as well as solve these problems (Kirschner, van Vilsteren, Hummel, & Wigman, 1997). A...
